Businesses Huddle to Improve Downtown Safety

San Pedro business owners are coming together in an effort to curb after-hours crime in the downtown area.

Recent incidents ranging from public drunkness and street fights to broken windows and a car through a storefront have alarmed local business owners, who are pushing for solutions to stop such crimes before they escalate.

Business owners will meet on Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Port of Los Angeles High School, 250 W. Fifth St. The meeting is open to the public.

I can't be there for the meeting, but I'd like to know what's being done to lure more businesses - and here, I mean big business with 50+ employees - to San Pedro. It seems to me that this would revitalize the local economy in ways that Farmer's Markets and Art Walks fall short.
